Halloween 2016

October 28th through November 1st

It’s time to gather once more beneath the redwoods and the stars to celebrate our lives and the lives of those who have come before. Known by many names, Samhain, Halloween, All Souls Day, this holiday is a time of not only tricks and treats, but also of tributes and remembrance. It’s a time when the veils between the living and the spirits are thin, so we invite the honored dead to dance and play and fuck and grieve with us.

stars-above-the-pondThe days are already beginning to shorten as we head towards the darker seasons of the year. What better way to spend those dark days than in the embrace of your fabulous queer family? Together, we will be dancing, playing, circling, sharing, feasting, fucking, holding each other in joy and sorrow. Together, under a new moon sky full of stars, we will cast new intentions for the coming months and release those pieces of ourselves that keep us from realizing them. Together, we will continue calling in a new, queerer reality.

filetia-at-the-dance-partyFriday night we begin the festivities with pumpkin carving, then s’mores and scary story telling around the fire.

Saturday we will build ancestor altars to the queer heroes our cabins have been named after, as well as enjoy hiking and heart circling during the day. That night, each cabin will host a Trick & Treat & Trina station, and we promise it’s not going to be just candy handed out. After we have our fill of treats, it’s on to more tricks at the Ancestors Ball, where all are invited to come dressed as an honored queer ancestor, invite their spirits in, and dance and love until dawn.

On Sunday, we will build our connections to the past, with rituals and activities that deepen our awareness of its connection to the present and future. Rituals at the Ancestor Altar and the newly constructed Portal will be punctuated with explorations of our shared queer herstory through discussions and workshops. Then we will gather around the campfire for our third annual Ghastly Talent Show, a space for all to feature their most fiendish feats.

ancestor-altarMonday, we will finish out the gathering with a day of self-care and sharing, followed by an acoustic jubilee: so bring your drums, guitars, fiddles, or whatever else you like to make noise with. All are invited to stay through until Tuesday afternoon.

As usual, gathering registration includes 3 delicious hot meals a day, full access to the land and activities, as well as lodging (there are 72 beds in cabins available on a first-come first-served basis and then plenty of tent camping). Also, barring unforeseen barriers, this will be our first gathering with our new spa complex operational! We can’t promise it, but all signs are pointing to the project being complete before the gathering’s start. This event is no one turned away for lack of funds, so we do have scholarship options available for those who can’t afford the registration fee.

If you have an activity you would like to share please e-mail us – we are always looking for more contributions from the community. We are also looking for 9 or 10 people to help lead the Trick & Treat & Trina stationse-mail us here if you are interested in taking a lead with that. All are expected to be contributors as well as participants.

Look forward to seeing you soon, darling.
