Name: Janelle Luster
Janelle is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she’s 25 years old and identifies as a Trans Woman. Janelle currently serves as Outreach and Linkage Specialist at Women Organized to Respond to Life-Threatening Diseases (WORLD). In this role Janelle does linkage to care for AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), Oakland Healthcare Center, and the WORLD Women’s Clinic focusing on early intervention services such as: providing direct services, assisting people with HIV to find care, connecting newly diagnosed self-identifying women to WORLDs peer advocate program, conducting outreach to various high risk populations within the community, and providing HIV Testing.
Janelle’s primary focus is to create spaces that are more inclusive for Transgender women to come together and receive quality services without feeling judged. Janelle continues to engage with the Transgender population that WORLD serves, letting them know of the new exciting things at WORLD. As a Trans Woman of Color (TWOC), Janelle strives for the advancement of other TWOC and believes that the only way it can be done is through Leadership and Empowerment.
Janelle most recently became a member of FLUX, which is a division of AHF that aims to raise the profile of the Trans and Gender NonConforming (GNC) community by leveraging social events, creating safe space, and innovative advocacy. Janelle has also participated in Peacock Rebellion’s Trans* Peer Advocacy Training in which she further developed her skills as a leader in the Trans* community. Janelle has a passion to serve her community, because she is her community. Janelle spends most of her time doing speaking engagements and sharing her story with others.
